Following the news announcement earlier last week, his Majesty, King Charles III, is set to attend hospital in the coming weeks for treatment for an enlarged prostate.
Buckingham Palace has said that the King’s condition is benign – which means non-cancerous – and that his public engagements will be postponed for a short period to allow his Majesty to recuperate.
It is not common practice for the Palace to issue commentary regarding royal health conditions and will release limited information on the occasions when it does provide public updates. This is why it was so striking to hear news of The Princess of Wales and her recovery from abdominal surgery issued on the same day as the news of King Charles III’s procedure.
It is thought that the king wanted to share his diagnosis with the public to encourage other men who may be experiencing symptoms to get checked. In a statement, it explains how “In common with thousands of men each year, the King has sought treatment for an enlarged prostate,”.
Prostate enlargement is a condition that can have effects on how you urinate. It is common in men over 50 and is not usually a serious condition, according to the NHS website. Around one in three men over the age of 50 will have some symptoms of an enlarged prostate, which is a gland that sits just below the bladder. The NHS has published guidance on how it is treated.
We at Chums wish both His Majesty and the Princess of Wales the best of luck in their recovery.
