100 Years of Farah

2020 marks the 100th year for one of our customers’ favourite trouser brands, Farah.  

Founded by Mansour Farah in Texas in 1920, the brand began by creating shirts and overalls for workers. By the 1930’s, they were supplying the US armed forces with apparel, showing the durable and well-constructed materials used by the brand.  

Whilst Farah still had a presence in the 1940’s and 50’s, it was the late 60’s and early 70’s were the brand really made a comeback and became the trousers most popular with the modern and fashionable in the UK.  

The styles ranged from front pocket flares for ‘Hippies’ in the 60’s to hopsack trousers for ‘Rude Boys’ in the 70’s. Their signature slacks were so popular in the UK during many different fashions and movements that Farah are often mistaken for a brand of British heritage. 

Following the difficult times for all businesses in the mid 70’s, including Farah, they tried introducing womenswear in the late 70’s. They then decided to focus on what worked best for them, which were inexpensive, easy to wear trousers. This saw the brand grow from strength to strength in the 80’s. The clothing continued to be popular in the 90’s, particularly with Brit Pop bands, appealing to the ‘indie’ style.  

Today, the Farah collections focus on premium, casual clothing which can be worn for any occasion and trousers that form a staple part of a man’s wardrobe.

With an entire century of history behind the brand, it isn’t surprising that Farah trousers remain a fashion faithful. Over the years, Farah trousers have been popular with an array of sub cultures and are still a favourite today which is why the classic styles remain whilst they also update their offering each season to keep on trend.
